Italo Bolano

Biografie

(Portoferraio 1936 - Prato 2020)

Italo Bolano was born in Portoferraio, on the Island of Elba. He studied art in Florence and architectural composition with Professor Travaglia in Padua, later teaching drawing and art history in state schools.

He travelled to various countries around the world, and was fascinated by the Orient. In particular, he studied the relationship between art and the city in Jerusalem, Paris and Brussels. His paintings moved from figurative to abstract expressionism.

In a green valley just outside Portoferraio, Bolano created an art park: 'the Open Air Museum'. In an area of around 10,000 square metres, he established an organic relationship between the many Mediterranean plants that adorn it and its monuments, in perfect harmony with nature and art.
