The theatre curtain by Vincenzo Antonio Revelli
The original theatre curtain, painted in lean tempera by Vincenzo Antonio Revelli, has also been preserved. The curtain depicts Napoleon as Apollo and shows him overseeing the herds of Admeto, king of Thessaly, in a clear parallel between Apollo’s exile and Napoleon's stay on the island of Elba. The landscape is mountainous and presumably inspired by the panoramas of Elba.
During the Second World War, the curtain was taken down and preserved by the inhabitants of Portoferraio. It was later restored by the Superintendency of Fine Arts in Pisa.
