The portrait of Pietro Gori
This portrait is a significant departure from Plinio Nomellini's normal style. The composition of the portrait is in fact academic, as is the psychological and physiognomic characterisation of the subject. We can assume the artist painted this work early in his career, at the end of the nineteenth century, when academic teachings were still holding him back from the style which would characterise his later production, as a leading exponent of the Divisionism technique. The only hints of his later style can be seen in the background of the painting, which he has used bold brushstrokes, in shades of green, yellow and pink. The painting comes from the Bice Gori Collection.
