The Archaeological Museum of the Mining District
The Archaeological Museum of the Mining District is located in an exhibition space consisting of a single large room, offering views of the hills which once supplied the iron ore. The tall turret-shaped exhibition cases, made of aged metal reflecting the colour of the earth, which is rich in oxides, are reminiscent of the structures of the old industrial plants. The Museum was inaugurated in 2002 and in 2009 valuable minerals from the Collection of the People of Rio were added, illustrating the rich geological history of the island.
