MUM Museum

MUM Museum

The building which houses the museum is the old schoolhouse of San Piero, located in the historic centre of the village. The museum enjoys a privileged position, situated in front of the ancient Romanesque parish church of San Niccolò, a few metres from the panoramic viewpoint, and a short distance from the most famous geosites.

The structure has open spaces, extensive rooms and a large garden, allowing the Museum to host a range of exhibitions and events.

The MUM is a starting point for numerous activities including trekking, donkey trekking, guided tours with observation and collection of small samples, theme evenings, visits to the still active granite quarries, tours of the ancient village, and orienteering activities.

It also hosts many temporary exhibitions by artists from Elba and further afield, as well as many other activities, making it a multi-purpose centre and reference point for the community.

The building was renovated by the municipal administration and was opened to the public as a museum in 2014.
