On the island of Giannutri, among rocky cliffs and paths scented by Mediterranean scrubland, lie the ruins of an ancient Roman Villa — a residential complex with its own maritime landing, once a hub for sailing vessels and aristocratic otium(leisure). Built in the 1st century AD by the powerful Domitii Ahenobarbi family — ancestors of Emperor Nero — the site offers a rare glimpse into Roman life in the Tuscan Archipelago.
The archaeological site was reopened to the public in 2015. Entrance fees directly support its conservation and maintenance.
Guided tours are available from April to September, subject to the seasonal calendar.
