Capraia Island
A tourist information and environmental education centre, 'La Salata', the Capraia Park House, has recently opened to the public to provide information on the history and territory of this wild island.
The new educational structure located in the tourist port provides all the information needed to enjoy the island’s breath-taking beauty. Inside there is a tourist information point – managed in collaboration between the National Park, the Municipality of Capraia Isola and the Pro Loco – which is also an Environmental Education Centre dedicated to Capraia. Multimedia displays in virtual reality and interactive applications make it possible to relive the geological formation of the Tuscan Archipelago and in particular the volcanic activity which led to the formation of the island, as well as experience the delights of the local path network.
A starting point for exciting adventures to discover the island of Capraia and the Pelagos Sanctuary.
A specific exhibition is dedicated to the “Pelagos” International Sanctuary of Marine Mammals with images of its inhabitants, in-depth information on marine fauna and information on the Tuscan Biodiversity Observatory.
The interactive environment allows visitors to enjoy a series of educational and exciting multimedia experiences including scenographic walls, animated by monitors, recreations of the sounds of nature, tablets with multimedia content and virtual reality viewers. Finally, the courtyard houses splendid life-size models of a bottlenose dolphin, a common dolphin and a stenella dolphin. Excursions can also be booked with a Park Guide (Tel. 320 9606560) to explore the trails, geological and archaeological treasures, and the island’s extraordinary marine protected area.
