The Italo Bolano Open Air Museum is a contemporary art park where public and artists can meet, surrounded by the wonderful Mediterranean flora.

The Open Air Museum is a historic museum of contemporary art conceived and created by Elba-born artist Italo Bolano in 1964 at S.Martino (Portoferraio) under the name of the International Art Center.
Once an international crossroads of art and culture, it is now a dynamic location which attracts many artists and visitors thanks to the many events organised there.
It is a real artist’s garden, where art and nature meet, and where the large environmental sculptures merge beautifully into grounds of about 10,000 square metres, home to Mediterranean trees, mimosa, eucalyptus, cypress, myrtle and oleander.
Today the Museum includes multidisciplinary locations: exhibition galleries, lecture rooms, pottery workshops, an open-air theatre and a bookshop. It was one of the first “modern art paths” to be recognised by the Tuscany Region (TRAART).

The Fondazione Italo Bolano E.T.S. was established in 2021 with the mission of revitalising the museum and the garden of artworks, and the premises are currently being renovated to the latest museum standards, to enable their more effective use by young people, Elba residents and guests who come to Elba from all over the world.
An innovative visitor experience that reflects the wishes of Italo Bolano himself, who died only recently: to provide his island with a crucible for ideas, always open to every form of artistic collaboration.
