Valentina Anselmi appointed Scientific Director of the Museum System of the Tuscan Archipelago
The Museum System of the Tuscan Archipelago (S.M.AR.T.) enters a new phase of development.
Following a public selection process held on the national InPA platform and promoted by the Municipality of Rio, lead entity of the network, the position of Scientific Director has been awarded to Dr. Valentina Anselmi, who will guide the System in the coming years.
This appointment marks an important step for the museum network, which brings together the municipalities of Portoferraio, Rio, Capoliveri, Campo nell’Elba, Marciana, Marciana Marina and Isola del Giglio, together with the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, the Italo Bolano Foundation ETS, the Association for the Protection of the Island of Pianosa, and Podere San Marco.
The role of the Scientific Director, as defined by the System’s Convention and Regulations, is to coordinate the cultural, scientific, and outreach activities of the network, fostering synergies between institutions and communities and enhancing the widespread cultural heritage of the Tuscan islands.
“This appointment opens a new chapter for the Museum System,” stated President Mattia Guerrini.
“The continuity of Valentina Anselmi’s experience is a valuable asset for our network: she is a professional who has contributed with competence, passion, and vision to the growth of S.M.AR.T., and who will be able to lead the museums of the Archipelago through a phase of renewal and greater openness to the public and to the territory.”

The assignment involves the development of shared strategies for museum enhancement, the implementation of network-wide cultural projects, and the promotion of an innovative model of island museology based on cooperation, sustainability, and digital innovation.
With this appointment, S.M.AR.T. reaffirms its mission as a laboratory of best practices for the enhancement of the cultural and environmental heritage of the Tuscan islands, a place of dialogue between research, creativity, and community.
